A Must See Movie for Fundraisers
After meeting the real life “Eddie the Eagle” many years ago, my husband was very excited to see the new film starring Tom Costello and Hugh Jackman. So this weekend, we headed off to the cinema, kids in tow. What we experienced was not only a great film it was also a great message about the power of believing in yourself and sticking to your goals, no matter what!
I think that resilience is one of the most underrated skills a fundraiser can possess. We work in an industry with many challenges, and are often forced to endure set back after set back. It can be difficult to stay focussed on your goal when the odds seemed stacked against you, but if you channel Eddie the Eagle and follow our tips below, success may be closer than you think.
- Get fired up – take some time to reconnect with your passion for the job or project. Visualise a successful outcome and imagine how good it will feel to come out on top.
- Don’t let the haters get you down – While it can be valuable to listen to the advice of others, it is also important to recognise that there are negative people in the world who only feel good when others feel bad. Try to ignore the people who aren’t supportive of your goals and instead surround yourself with those who share your passion and believe in what you are trying to achieve.
- Focus on solutions, not problems. When things are not going to plan, it is important to stay positive and put your energy into finding a solution or alternative course of action.
- Think creatively – Sometimes the best solutions are not the most obvious ones, so you may need to think laterally in order to move forward. By fostering a culture of creativity and innovation in your organisation, you will help ensure solutions and alternatives are quickly found when problems and setbacks arise.
Whether you take your team or your family, I think everyone will get something out of going to see Eddie the Eagle. So this week we will be giving away 4 tickets to see Eddie the Eagle at a cinema near you. Just email email@example.com with the subject line “Eddie the Eagle Comp” and will draw a winner on Monday 16 May, 2016.
