As we approach International Corporate Philanthropy Day on Monday the 25th of February, there is an unmistakable buzz in the air.
Non-profit and corporate organisations from around the world are revelling in the opportunity to share their partnership success stories and highlight the important role corporate philanthropy plays in a modern society.
There are more than 700,000 not-for-profits in Australia working to make our country a healthier, more productive, inclusive and vibrant place to live. A large majority of them simply would not survive without the financial support of the business community.
We are in an era where there is heightened interest in linking with the Third Sector and we are witnessing more and more businesses engaging in philanthropic and corporate social responsibility activities in this country.
While there is a lot to celebrate this International Corporate Philanthropy Day, it is also important to remember that we are only at the base of the climb! There is so much more to be done before we see Australia cement its place as a global philanthropic leader.
We need to buck international trends and rise to the challenge of growing corporate philanthropy or face a bleak future from a social perspective. Corporate Philanthropy will play a vital role in resolving a number of major problems in our society over the next few decades. It is essential that we continue to raise awareness of corporate community partnerships, that we inspire more businesses to get involved and change our approach to remain relevant and competitive in today’s changing marketplace.
For four decades our firm has played a role in shaping the philanthropic landscape throughout Australasia and this International Corporate Philanthropy Day OKP pledge to our commitment to advancing corporate philanthropy. We will work with both sides of the coin – non-profits and corporate philanthropists – identifying suitable partners, developing frameworks and devising strategies that will breed successful community partnerships.
As a sign of our commitment this coming Monday on International Corporate Philanthropy Day (Monday 25 Feb 2013) we will unite Third Sector Leaders at a Forum in Melbourne to release some early findings from our Giving Trends 2012 research which will be publically available at Easter.
From myself and the team at OKP, we wish you a happy International Corporate Philanthropy Day!
