9 in 10 Australians donate to charity
A new report by the Australian Charities & Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) has found that 9 out of every 10 Australians made a donation to charity in the last year.
The study, titled ‘Public Trust and Confidence in Australia Charities 2015’ and conducted by Chantlink, found that people view charities among the most trustworthy institutions in Australia. Australian charities ranked third behind only doctors and the police, and are considered to be more trustworthy than the High Court, Reserve Bank and State and Federal Parliament.
The research also discovered that 78% of people support at least one charity regularly, and 87% of people supported a charity at least once in the last year.
The biggest concern with regards to charities is a perception of wastefulness, including excessive administration, fundraising and salary costs.
